Sun City is located about 28 miles south of Pratt, 80 miles southeast of Dodge City, and 100 miles southwest of Wichita. Sun City is located near the beautiful Gypsum Hills Scenic Byway.
Sun City is only 20 miles northeast of Medicine Lodge, a notable setting in Kansas History. It is best known for the peace treaty proclaimed between the United States and the Five Tribes of Plains Indians in 1867. Thus, the city commemorates the signing with various monuments and events, such as the Indian Peace Treaty Pageant.
Medicine Lodge is home to the Annual Kansas Championship Ranch Rodeo. Carrie A. Nation began her crusades for prohibition in Medicine Lodge, through the Women's Christian Temperance Movement. Medicine Lodge is home to the Stockade Museum and the new Heritage Center and future home of the Martina McBride Museum.
There is a very nice city lake at the north end of Medicine Lodge. The Medicine River, which is said to have medicinal qualities, flows just south of Sun City.
Many people also enjoy the 250 acre Coldwater City Lake and park.
The municipally owned Medicine Lodge Airport is located 3 miles southeast of town and the nearest international airport is in Wichita.
